They are now appearing all over the Microsoft campus, today in building 10. The flyers had announced them as the "interactive coffee machines".
Starbucks coffee machine, with Sujal Parikh (Developer Lead Extraordinaire) and Yves Neyrand (Test Manager for WPF)
I think of the old the coffee machines, with their filter and manual operation, as the native code machines, while the new ones are the managed code machines, with more functionality, better UI, and better tasting coffee! No word if the new machines have made it into building 9 yet.
With the new machines the coffee is freshly ground and tastes better. The machine doesn't do fancy coffees (Mocha, etc), and one can only choose between two types of coffee grounds, hot chocolate, and hot water.
And, as at least one person discovered this morning, you do have to put the cup under the spout. It is not automatic...
- people trying to game the machine/save time by starting their coffee order, going to do something else, and putting the cup under the drip "just in time" - although sometimes a bit after the just part
- reloading the cocoa powder makes a mess if one is not careful
Other than that, the machines are great. Very good tasting and hot coffee.
